Deaf-SELF February Playscheme news
Deaf-SELF were thrilled to host February half term playscheme once again based at Catford Wanderers Sports Club near Beckenham.
We chatted to Cheryl Culver, Project Coordinator
about how the week went.
This week we had a new interpreter, Vinessa. Straight away, we have found her to be amazing! We never thought it possible for anyone to replace our much loved interpreter, Ben, but surprisingly, Vinessa has outdone Ben with her crazy sense of humour. She’s quick on her feet and it feels like she has always been with us. Everyone loves her!! We are thrilled to have her in our team.
The children and youths were brilliant. They remembered all the rules, especially the all important number one rule which is ‘Have fun!’ and they did!
We went trampolining, to Gambado’s and played challenge assault course inside the hall. The youths enjoyed a trip to Emirates Aviation Experience and found out what it was like to be a pilot and have a go in a simulator room to fly a jet!
On the last day, it was a member of the youth group’s birthday. A huge chocolate cake was brought out to everyone’s joy because they were allowed to have some chocolate before lunch time! We spoiled them and I would say that we had yet another very successful time throughout.

Our Deaf playscheme offers a combination of in-venue activities such as sports, baking and crafts activities as well as day visits to adventure parks, trampolining, or wall-climbing.
