February playscheme !
What a fantastic week!
Thanks to the all clear from Public Health England and Disability Rights Commission we were allowed to open our Deaf Playscheme! We were so pleased to be open, despite only being able to offer a limited number of spaces. We were open for 4 full days during February half term. Due to additional communication barriers that have been caused by the pandemic, Deaf children have faced an intensified degree of isolation, so it was "Remarkable!" to see them all come together, socialise and enjoy each others company - from a safe distance, of course!
The children and youth enjoyed playing a variety of different games including a fun filled Nintendo Switch competition, outdoor team games and plenty of competitive board games! They also enjoyed socialising with adults and their peers, whilst being able to use their preferred language, BSL! The children also created, directed and produced their own short films using a green screen, with premieres being shown on the last day - with a yummy popcorn treat too! Many of the children said that it was their favourite activity EVER! Wow! What a response! Watch out Tarantino and Spielberg!
We are very much looking forward to reopening for Easter and welcoming the children back once again!... I don't know who is more excited... us or them?!
