Youth Clubbers turn into Professional Chefs!
Last week’s Youth Club turned out to be one of our must successful activities to date. We teamed up with Springboard and Mercato Metropolitano to provide the group with a chef experience in a real life working professional kitchen!
Springboard are a charity who help disadvantaged and unemployed people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life to fall in love with hospitality, leisure and tourism, and gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed.
Mercato Metropolitano are a collective of people passionate about seasonal produce, emotive food, community inclusion, and the preservation of the environment.
The evening started with a tour of Mercato Metropolitano’s Elephant and Castle venue. Seeing the huge range of food experiences they offer and discussing the importance of sustainability to the future of the service industry.
This was followed by a ravioli making experience led wonderfully by Mercato Metropolitano’s Head Chef Gabriel. The youths were hooked and showed incredible skills, patience and focus to create their own personal Ravioli from scratch using Gabriel’s Grandmothers recipe!
Each member left with both a belly full of food, a new skill under their belt and a sense of true pride in their achievement. An activity we will be definitely revisiting in the future.
