Celebrating Herbert Klein's 70th Birthday: Friendship and Philanthropy

It has been a momentous occasion for the Remark! community as we’ve come together to celebrate the 70th birthday of our esteemed trustee, Herbert Klein.

Herbert, not only a dedicated member of our badminton club but also a pivotal partner in the sponsorship of Gerkatin in Indonesia, was being honoured for his remarkable contributions to both the local and international Deaf communities.

The celebration took place at Remark!’s central London office, spanning two floors, which set the stage for an evening filled with warmth, laughter, and joy. Friends and family gathered to celebrate this significant milestone in Herbert's life and, in a heart-warming gesture, opted for a philanthropic gift over a traditional birthday present. Together, they raised an impressive £1,000! Half of this generous sum will be directed towards supporting Gerkatin, an initiative in Indonesia that Herbert has been passionately involved in. The other half will go to Remark! Community, specifically designated for their work with young people, emphasising Herbert's commitment to nurturing the next generation of children in the Deaf community.

Herbert has worked within the sphere of Deaf mental health for an impressive 35 years. His extensive experience and unwavering dedication has made him a vital ally to Remark! services, particularly in our efforts to support Deaf individuals. Herbert's invaluable knowledge and insights have played a pivotal role in shaping Remark! Community’s approach to providing mental health support to the Deaf community.

But Herbert's contributions don't end there! He has conducted workshops for all of Remark!'s lunch clubs and various other projects, further underscoring his dedication to the Deaf community. Notably, he is the driving force behind the establishment of the Lewisham Sign Language Community Group, a testament to his tireless efforts in promoting accessibility.

In the words of his fellow community members, Herbert Klein is nothing short of an "all-round top bloke!" His warmth, generosity, and passion for making a positive impact on the lives of others have left an indelible mark on Remark! Community and beyond.
