New Lunch Clubs funded by the National Lottery Community Fund

A new Deaf Lunch Club in Camden will be launched on the 11th of October at 18 Leather Lane, London, EC1N 7SU.

Many older Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users are often isolated and secluded from society. Through our current Lunch Clubs for Deaf people aged over 55 in Eltham and Beckenham, they are provided a chance to meet old friends or make new friends whilst enjoying a freshly prepared hot meal.

In addition, we offer a free BSL advocacy service to support members with their personal administration, such as making phone calls and or translating letters, and invite guest speakers to enable them to access information in BSL.

Our aim is to promote physical and mental wellbeing for our older Deaf community.

To build on this success, Remark! Community has been awarded a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to expand further so that Deaf people in other parts of London have the same opportunity to access a safe, friendly space. This will also provide vital funding to keep the existing clubs going.

“I’m really excited to be bringing our lunch clubs to Camden, I’ve seen how much our members in South London have benefited from the project and am delighted the National Lottery have enabled us to spread this valuable project to other areas in London ”

“I enjoy coming to lunch club because it’s good to relax, see my friends and socialise. We’ve recently moved to a new hall which is nice and spacious. The volunteers are also lovely and friendly. I’m very happy here.”
