Cooking up a storm with Saturday Club!

We had a huge group on Saturday for our children’s cooking session. It was amazing to see how many young people were excited to make some delicious food!  We encouraged the group to get involved with every step of the process including teaching them how to be both safe and hygienic in the kitchen. It’s always great when you can hide the fact you’re teaching them something because they’re having so much fun along the way! (Mwahaha!!).

First on the menu was Rocky Road Cupcakes and Cornflake Buns! The group were fantastic, following the process and instructions really diligently. They did make quite a mess but that’s all part of the fun! We haven’t received any invoices from parents for clothes washing services (…yet!).

For main course we made pasta with tomato sauce and chopped vegetables, a slightly healthier option than the starter! For some children this was their first experience of cooking, so they had great questions, like “why do we have to heat the water?”. It was lovely to see them being so inquisitive and hopefully this sparks a joy of cooking they can carry on through their lives. Other children were more confident and were given more tricky tasks like chopping the vegetables.

The final jobs were checking if the pasta was ready and grating the cheese. Then the best bit.. eating everything we’d made. The food was delicious! We sent the kids off home with full bellies and high on sugar! Another successful activity for Saturday.
