Sean Richards delights with Talk on Deaf Rights

This month, we were honoured to welcome Sean Richards from the British Deaf Association (BDA) to our Lunch Clubs and Remarkable Club.

Not three times, not four times, but five times Sean delivered his highly informative presentation. He schooled us on Deaf rights, like how to access NHS services and what to do when local councils decide to ignore you (they can’t!). He covered crucial topics, including the Accessible Information Standards and how to file complaints using the NHS Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

Throughout the session, many members shared their personal experiences—both positive and negative—and posed all the questions that had been brewing from their lifetimes of experiences. One highlight came when a member, newly aware of their rights, booked an interpreter for a job interview through the Access to Work scheme, realising it was their legal entitlement.

A heartfelt thank you to Sean from everyone at Remark! Community. We are excited to implement the valuable advice shared and continue our advocacy for equal access for all!
