Knole House Trip - Eltham Lunch Club
On Monday 15th December, members from Eltham lunch club visited historic and glorious Knole House in Sevenoaks Kent. Situated in a huge open space where no skyscrapers can be seen we arrived to fresh air and freely grazing deer. What a world away from London!
We sat down for lunch in the stone brick café where the staff members were eager to learn some BSL and enjoyed chatting about what history we already knew about the great building.
After some jacket potatoes and fact sharing, we headed into the courtyard. The four-hundred-year-old house had a staff member in each room that was able to tell us all about the history of the room, who the portraits were of and what remained of the original building.
Knole House was Seized by Henry VIII
We learnt all about the current owners the Sackville's and how the house became theirs. We also learnt Knole House was seized by Henry VIII during the Tudor dynasty! Classic Henry!
After the tour we popped back to the café for some tea and a chat. It was a lovely breath of fresh air and English history that we thoroughly enjoyed by all! Thank you Knole house for your hospitality and bountiful knowledge.
